Skida are naturally gentle creatures despite their powerful bodies.  They are relatively idle beings that spend most of their time stationary observing all their surroundings.  When they get angry, they are naturally equipped to protect themselves and dish out high amounts of physical damage.  When Speakers first came to the Runelands, Skida were naturally curious about humans and do whatever it takes to learn more about them.  They are relatively easy to summon because they love to come to the mortal realm to learn all that they can.
